When they are children, most people want cats, dogs and ponies for pets. While they are all great options, there are many reasons why birds make good pets. These intelligent and beautiful animals might not be the obvious choice, but they can be a great addition to any family.
There are few things as heartbreaking as losing a beloved pet and someone who does not want to go through that experience again may want to get a bird as a companion. There are many species of birds that can be kept for pets and live to be over one hundred years old. This means that not only can a family enjoy a pet bird for many years, but the parents can eventually pass the beloved family pet down to their children for generations.
People often shy away from birds as pets because they are not furry like many other options but, in reality, they are very social animals. With proper training and sufficient time spent around their owners, birds can be just as affectionate as dogs or cats. It is not unusual to find a bird and owner who are inseparable, with the bird accompanying the owner on errands and following them around the home.
There are also many practical reasons that birds are a great choice for a pet. They are very easy to take care of since they do not need to be walked and can stay in a cage all day while the family is out. In addition, they require very little grooming and are very inexpensive to feed.
Birds are incredibly intelligent as well as social, and those are just two of the reasons why birds make good pets. On the next visit to the pet store, avoid the temptation to head straight for the furry four-legged friends. Take a look at the beautiful birds and consider a completely new experience as a pet owner.
